Lamborghini is Buzzing with Bees!

On the occasion of World Bee Day, Lamborghini highlights its commitment to protecting the environment. Lamborghini launched an environmental monitoring project in 2016 with the installation of an apiary in its park in Sant'Agata Bolognese. The apiary currently contains 600,000 bees, of which 120,000 forage around the park.

Non-stop Monitoring Apiary Technology

To make it possible to observe the behavior of the insects close-by and to collect even more in-depth analyses, an interior and exterior camera is mounted.

Environmental Impact

These analyses reveal a wide variety of pollutants such as pesticides used in agriculture, heavy metals, aromatic substances, dioxins, and many others. Environmental pollution can be controlled by the vast "foraging" of bees, that is, their flight to gather nectar and pollen within a radius of about 3 km.

Research Based Biomonitoring

Biomonitoring is conducted on several colonies of solitary bees, which have a shorter foraging radius (200 meters) than social bees. The colonies allow better monitoring of specific areas of the site and the collection of more accurate data about the site's environmental impact.

Lamborghini has been pursuing an environmental sustainability strategy since 2009, resulting in certification as a CO2 neutral production site in 2015.

“Lamborghini has always been a trendsetter in terms of sustainability in the automotive,” says Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Lamborghini. “Today, we are accelerating on this journey to become a neutral CO2 company, choosing a holistic approach to include product, production plant, logistics, and supply chain.”
