Thank the Pope for Cars and Coffee

With the popularity of the Weekend “Cars and Coffee” event, popping up in just about every parking lot of a mall or a car dealership, most people aren’t aware that this social meet-up would not be possible without the literal blessing of the Pope!

Founded in Turkey during the 17th Century of the Islamic Ottoman Empire, coffee made its way to Venice, Italy by way of water trade routes.  Coffee became popular because it made people alert, whereas beer made people tired and of course, drunk.

The current Pope at that time, Pope Clement VIII’s, had advisers that wanted the Pope to ban Coffee because Coffee came from an Islamic nation and was very suspicious of the mind-altering alerting effects of caffeine within coffee.

Being wise as a Pope should be, Pope Clement VIII tried coffee before judging it.  He had a taste of coffee and loved the effects of it!  After the literal baptism of coffee, Rome curated the first European coffee house in 1645.

Coffee, in all the forms that we have today from pour-overs to lattes, can thank the Pope.

Without it, literally, all caffeine jokes and memes on the internet would have not existed, and the Motorsport Lab would not have been able to execute any of our events!

Pope Clement VIII’s advisers called it a “bitter invention of Satan”

“This Satan’s drink is so delicious that it would be a pity to let the infidels have exclusive use of it.”
